Domes have been built to lift the eye for a very long time. Oleg Grabar read the muqarnas domes of the Alhambra as the turning heavens, and in 1923 the first planetarium put the night sky on a plaster dome in Jena.
The Park is meant to sit in that line. The dome's own grid is the material, the audience stands inside the composition, and repetition and pattern carry the eye upward.
Night Up is the first piece. You can watch it here, inside a working copy of SAT's own dome viewer.
The viewer
The dome is drawn by Domeport, the previewer the Société des arts technologiques makes for artists working toward the Satosphère. Its web version could not draw the dome, because the toolkit it is built with left its 3D module out of the browser build. I built it again with the module in, and sent the fix back to SAT as a pull request.
I modified the source code for this custom build, since the current official build doesn't have 3D viewer capabilities. My source code and pull request can be viewed here. The pull requests themselves are open on the ossia SDK and on Domeport.
